Sunday Night at the Arclight OR How I Called 'Ugly Betty' a Whore

Wow. How do I succinctly try to describe what happened to me and a small group of friends last night? It started out innocently enough with a friendly outing to see "Volver" at the Arclight Cinemas on a Sunday night at 8:00pm. After leaving the theatre, my friends and I sat outside to people-watch and have a quick ciggarette. Sitting next to us was another small grouping of friends, one of whom recognized my friend Michael. After hearing the voice a few moments (and my roomate's "subtle" look of confirmation) I suddenly realized that it was none other thant America Ferrera, aka Ugly Betty. I was trying to look not star-struck when an interesting exchange occured:

America, while in Junior High School with my friend, went by the name Georgina (America's middle name). My friend, Michael, became confused and asked America if she had heard from Georgina, and America corrected him and let him know that she IS Georgina, she is just using her first name now. After a few moments of confusion, we all started saying, "Good thing Michael didn't say, 'what happened to that WHORE Georgina??' ". We started laughing, but America WAS NOT amused. Even after one of her friends chimed in, the conversation had already taken a slightly awkard turn and we all walked away chuckling. Well, my friends were chuckling, I re-lived the experience on repeat the entire night. Ugh.

And that, is how I called Ugly Betty a whore.
Here is how my friend summed it up:
Movie Tickets: $10.00
Assorted coffee beverages: $12.50
Small popped corn:$4.00
Calling Ugly Betty a whore: Priceless
